Leeds United are moving fast in the summer transfer window as they get ready for Premier League football.
After signing striker Lukas Nmecha and agreeing a deal for defender Jaka Bijol, the club now have their eyes on a strong young midfielder.
Farke Wants More Muscle in Midfield
Daniel Farke and the 49ers know that just signing attackers and defenders won’t be enough.
Leeds need power in the middle of the pitch to handle tough Premier League games.
That’s why the club is looking at players like Noah Sadiki, Habib Diarra, and now Valentin Atangana.
Leeds have been told they can sign Atangana from French club Stade de Reims, who got relegated last season.
The 19-year-old is known as a “ball-winner” and has already been compared to N’Golo Kanté for his work rate and aggressive style.
Who is Valentin Atangana?
Atangana is a young defensive midfielder who has played over 60 matches in his career so far.
He’s not a goal scorer, but he’s brilliant at breaking up attacks and protecting the defence.
His team, Reims, now need to sell players after going down from Ligue 1, and they are open to letting him go for around £9 million.
He has good stats too, strong tackling, lots of energy, and not many cards.
He’s a calm but aggressive type of player, just what Leeds are looking for in the middle of the park.
Fits Perfectly with Bijol and Leeds’ Plans
Leeds have already added Jaka Bijol at the back, a tall physical defender.
But Bijol is not the quickest, and the team will need someone like Atangana in midfield to cover the space and win the ball back.
Building a strong squad means adding different types of players who can work together.
Farke wants energy, athleticism, and control in the midfield. Atangana, alongside someone like Diarra or Sadiki, could give Leeds just that.
What’s Next?
Leeds are still weighing up their options, but Atangana is now firmly on their list.
The club knows they can sign him, and now it’s just a matter of whether they move quickly or wait to see how the market plays out.
Leeds United are building a smart and balanced team for the Premier League.
With Nmecha up front, Bijol at the back, and now Atangana in the mix for midfield, the Whites are getting ready for a big season ahead.
