Manager Daniel Farke: playing career
Farke was a forward who spent his whole career in the lower levels of German football. Most of it was at SV Lippstadt, where he had three spells.
Manager Farke: early coaching career
He began as manager of SV Lippstadt, taking them from the sixth tier of German football to the fourth over six years. He then coached Borussia Dortmund’s reserve side for two seasons.
Manager at Norwich City
Farke joined Norwich in May 2017. He won the Championship in 2018-19 and again in 2020-21, the second time with a club record 97 points. Norwich went straight back down after both promotions, although Farke left during the second Premier League season.
Krasnodar and Gladbach
He was appointed by Russian club Krasnodar in January 2022 but left in March, before managing a game, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In June 2022 he took charge of Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga for one season.
Leeds United manager
Farke was appointed on a four-year contract after Leeds went down in 2023. His first season ended with 90 points and a play-off final defeat to Southampton. In 2024-25 Leeds won the Championship, finishing top on the last day with a win at Plymouth.
Back in the Premier League in 2025-26, Leeds finished 14th, 8 points clear of the drop. They won at Old Trafford in the league for the first time in 45 years, and reached the FA Cup semi-final, losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Wembley. Farke was sent off against Manchester City in February 2026 for walking onto the pitch to speak to the referee.
His contract runs to June 2027. BBC Sport and Leeds Live reported in September 2026 that talks over an extension were ongoing. Neither report confirmed a signed renewal.
