Gudmundsson Sunderland revenge: Leeds feel confident

by Alex Matthews

Gudmundsson Sunderland revenge is the message from Leeds United’s left-back ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Stadium of Light. Gabriel Gudmundsson told BBC Radio Leeds that the team are confident and physically strong, and that they want to put right what happened in the last away game against Sunderland.

Gudmundsson Sunderland revenge: “we should have won”

Last season Leeds drew 1-1 at Sunderland and lost 1-0 at home, according to BBC Sport, which published the interview. Gudmundsson said: “We definitely want to have revenge from last time we were there. We were the better team and should have won that game, so you really want to go there and get something out of it this weekend.”

He also warned that it will not be easy. “Sunderland away is always difficult and we know that we have to be strong,” he said, adding that a good result would be “massive” before the following weekend’s trip to Bournemouth, which he called another really tough away game.

Gudmundsson on Leeds’ confidence and his fitness

Leeds are seventh after seven games and have lost once in the Premier League, per the BBC. Gudmundsson missed the first two matches with a hamstring injury, but he says he is feeling good after getting games in the international break. “Expectations from last season going into this season were higher,” he said. “People outside are now expecting us to get points from every game.”

He pointed to the summer signings and said the club is on “a good path”, adding that being disappointed not to beat top teams “shows the ambition we have”. For Gudmundsson, Sunderland revenge is as much about momentum as pride, with Leeds seventh after seven games and Bournemouth next. This is a player’s view of the game and not a prediction of the team. Daniel Farke has not named his side, and kick-off is at 4.30pm on Sunday, as Leeds confirmed on their website.
