Gabriel Gudmundsson has been named in the Sweden squad for this month’s UEFA Nations League fixtures against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland.
Leeds United confirmed the 27-year-old defender’s selection on Wednesday, with the full-back set to join Graham Potter’s squad for the November internationals.
Sweden face top-two clash in Stockholm
Sweden host Bosnia and Herzegovina in Stockholm on Saturday 14 November, with kick-off at 7:45pm, before travelling to Wroclaw to face Poland on Tuesday 17 November, also at 7:45pm.
Blagult go into the break top of their group after winning three and drawing one of their opening four matches. They hold a two-point lead over second-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina, so the Stockholm meeting could decide first place.
The opener could also give Gabriel Gudmundsson a meeting with a club teammate. Should Tarik Muharemovic also be called up by Bosnia and Herzegovina, the two Leeds defenders would be on opposing sides in Stockholm.
Gabriel Gudmundsson targeting a 33rd senior cap
Gabriel Gudmundsson has established himself as an important member of the national set-up, earning 32 senior caps. His most recent appearance came in last month’s 1-0 victory over Romania.
The full-back, who missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury, has been a regular for Daniel Farke’s side since his return and told BBC Radio Leeds last month that the squad were confident and “on a good path”.
His call-up comes days after Leeds’ 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth.
