Sunderland 0-0 Leeds ended with Sean Longstaff almost stealing a late winner. Daniel Farke’s side had to settle for a point at a windy Stadium of Light. The substitute’s close-range effort was blocked in stoppage time after Noah Okafor sent the ball back across goal.
The draw took Leeds to 11 points and seventh place, with five draws from their opening eight Premier League matches. Sunderland remained bottom, although both teams had chances to make the afternoon more rewarding.
Sunderland 0-0 Leeds: Trafford keeps the hosts out
Dominic Calvert-Lewin started after the doubts outlined in our Leeds injury update before Sunderland. Anton Stach and Okafor were among the substitutes, while Jaka Bijol, Harry Wilson and Brenden Aaronson came into the starting side.
James Trafford had important work to do. Brian Brobbey pressured Bijol into an underhit backpass before forcing the goalkeeper to save with his legs in the first half. Nilson Angulo also tested Trafford after the interval, with the Leeds goalkeeper pushing away efforts as Sunderland enjoyed a spell of pressure.
Leeds had their own moments without finding a breakthrough. Tarik Muharemovic met Wilson’s corner, but Robin Roefs held the header. Jayden Bogle repeatedly looked to create opportunities from the right.

Leeds finish strongly but cannot beat Roefs
Stach and Okafor came on in the second half as Farke changed his attacking options with Sunderland 0-0 Leeds still in the balance. A low Bogle cross then needed an excellent intervention from Noah Sadiki, with Okafor waiting behind the Sunderland defender.
Roefs spilled Ao Tanaka’s shot on the turn before the goalkeeper and O’Nien converged on Calvert-Lewin as he chased the rebound. No penalty was awarded. Longstaff later replaced Tanaka and quickly threatened with a low effort that Roefs pushed around the post.
The best late opening came after Okafor recovered a deep cross and delivered into the middle. Longstaff shot with Roefs out of position, but the block preserved the scoreline.
Sunderland 0-0 Leeds leaves another shared result
Leeds left with a clean sheet rather than the victory they had anticipated before kick-off. Our Gudmundsson preview covered the determination to get a result on Wearside, while the Farke match preview set out the challenge before kick-off.
There was no late reward for Leeds’ pressure. Their defence and goalkeeper also ensured Sunderland could not turn their own chances into a winner.
