Leeds United are gearing up for a top Championship clash against Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road, hoping to build on their season and climb up the league table.
The Whites, who recently drew 0-0 with Bristol City, are eager to get back to winning form.
Among Leeds’ talents, one young player stands out, Mateo Joseph, a promising striker who some say could become Leeds’ own version of Wayne Rooney.
Mateo Joseph’s Growing Talent
Since joining Leeds from Espanyol’s academy, 21-year-old Joseph has impressed fans and scouts alike.
His breakthrough came in the 2022-23 season, scoring 16 goals in 21 matches for the under-21s.
This led to his debut in the first team, and this season, he’s stepped up as a regular, showcasing both goal-scoring ability and playmaking skills.
This season, Joseph has made 12 Championship appearances, scoring twice and assisting three times.
Known for his strength, pace, and teamwork, he creates big chances for teammates, like Rooney did in his early days.
Antonio Mango, a youth scout, described him as “wonderful” and “a major talent,” seeing clear potential for him to become a complete center-forward.
Comparisons to Wayne Rooney
Though Joseph has yet to match Rooney’s level, his aggressive play style, ability to hold the ball, and knack for setting up others show promise.
Rooney’s impressive career with Manchester United and England remains unmatched, but Leeds fans hope Joseph can follow in those footsteps and make his own mark at Elland Road.
Joseph’s journey shows that Leeds may indeed be nurturing their own Rooney, a young talent with loads of potential.
