Leeds United looked to be closing in on another outgoing transfer after agreeing a deal for goalkeeper Lucas Perri to leave Elland Road.
However, the situation has now taken an unexpected turn, with another European club reportedly trying to hijack the move before it is officially completed.
Daniel Farke has been busy reshaping his squad this summer following Leeds’ return to the Premier League. The Whites have already welcomed James Trafford as their new first-choice goalkeeper, but there is still plenty of work to do before the transfer window closes.
Perri’s expected departure was supposed to be one of the next pieces of business completed. Instead, fresh interest from France has created uncertainty over where the Brazilian goalkeeper will play this season.

Lucas Perri’s future takes an unexpected twist
For several days, it looked as though Perri’s next destination had already been decided. Leeds had reached an agreement for the goalkeeper to move to Italian side Torino, and the transfer appeared to be moving towards completion.
The Brazilian was expected to undergo medical checks before finalising the switch.
However, reports now suggest another club has entered the race at the last moment. French side Marseille are searching for a new goalkeeper after losing their own first-choice stopper, and Perri has emerged as one of their preferred targets.
Because the deal with Torino has not yet been completed, Marseille still have an opportunity to convince the player to move to Ligue 1 instead.
The final decision could now rest with Perri himself.
Rather than rushing into an agreement, the goalkeeper is reportedly taking time to carefully consider both options before deciding where his future lies.

James Trafford’s arrival changed everything
Perri’s situation changed dramatically once Leeds completed the signing of James Trafford.
The England goalkeeper arrived at Elland Road as one of the club’s biggest signings of the summer and is expected to become Daniel Farke’s first-choice goalkeeper immediately.
That left Perri facing very limited opportunities. Competition for places had already been difficult, and Trafford’s arrival made regular football even harder to achieve.
For a goalkeeper entering an important stage of his career, sitting on the bench was never likely to be an attractive option.
A move away therefore became the best solution for both player and club. Leeds would reduce the size of the squad while Perri could return to playing first-team football every week.
Leeds still need another goalkeeper
Although Perri appears close to leaving, Leeds are not expected to stop working in the transfer market.
Daniel Farke has already admitted there are still positions that require strengthening before the new Premier League season begins. Goalkeeper is believed to be one of those areas.
Once Perri completes his move, Leeds will almost certainly need another player to provide competition and cover behind Trafford.
Having only one experienced goalkeeper would be a risk across a long campaign. The club’s recruitment team are therefore expected to continue exploring the market before the transfer deadline.

Farke focused on completing his squad
The Leeds manager has repeatedly explained that his squad still needs improvements.
Without naming specific positions publicly, Farke has admitted there are areas where more specialist players are required. That careful approach is understandable.
Managers often avoid discussing transfer targets in public because doing so can make negotiations more expensive.
Instead, Leeds continue working quietly behind the scenes.
The club have already completed several important deals this summer, and supporters expect more arrivals before the transfer window closes. Player departures will also help create space for further signings.
Perri’s exit appears likely regardless of whether he joins Torino or Marseille. The only question now is which club wins the race for his signature.
With multiple teams interested and Leeds willing to let the goalkeeper leave, this transfer story may not have its final chapter just yet.
