Ex-Leeds United Star Set for Stunning £68M Saudi Switch After Roma Move Hijacked

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United fans will remember Crysencio Summerville as one of the most exciting young players to come through at Elland Road in recent years.

The Dutch winger was a player who could get supporters off their seats. His speed, skill and confidence made him a big favourite with the fans, but his time in Yorkshire came to an end after Leeds failed to win promotion back to the Premier League in 2024.

Now, the former Leeds man is on the verge of another huge move.

Summerville has reportedly become the subject of a massive offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. The deal is said to be worth around £70m, with the Saudi side moving quickly to beat competition from Italian giants AS Roma.

It is a huge rise in value for a player who once arrived at Leeds as a young talent with plenty to prove.

Al Hilal blow Roma out of the race

Summerville had been attracting interest from several clubs this summer after enjoying a very strong campaign.

AS Roma were believed to be one of the clubs pushing hardest for his signature. The Italian side had reportedly made an offer worth around £40m and looked to be in a strong position to complete the deal.

However, the situation has now changed.

Al Hilal have reportedly made a much bigger offer, with the total package believed to be worth close to £70m.

That figure was simply too difficult for West Ham to ignore.

The Saudi club’s financial power has once again changed the transfer market, and Roma have been left behind despite their efforts to bring the winger to Italy.

For Summerville, the move could be another major step in his career.

He has gone from being a young Leeds player trying to establish himself in English football to becoming a player valued at a huge transfer fee.

Leeds will remember Summerville’s rise

Leeds fans will know exactly why clubs are willing to pay big money for the winger.

Summerville arrived at Elland Road as a young player with raw talent. Over time, he developed into one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Leeds squad.

His ability to take on defenders and create chances made him a special player to watch.

The winger became even more important during Leeds’ push for promotion, but the club’s failure to beat Southampton in the play-off final changed everything.

That summer was painful for Leeds supporters.

The club lost several important players, with Summerville joining West Ham, Archie Gray moving to Tottenham and Georginio Rutter signing for Brighton.

It was a huge blow for Daniel Farke’s team. However, Leeds managed to recover.

Farke helped the club return to the Premier League the following season, and the Whites then survived their first campaign back in the top flight.

Summerville, meanwhile, continued his own development away from Elland Road.

His performances improved, his reputation grew and he eventually earned international recognition with the Netherlands.

Now, he could be about to make another huge move.

The £70m deal shows how much Summerville has grown

The reported price is important because it shows how far Summerville has come.

Leeds sold the winger after their failure to win promotion, but his value has increased significantly since leaving Yorkshire.

West Ham are now in a position to make a massive profit on the player.

That will be frustrating for some Leeds supporters, who will wonder what could have happened if the club had managed to win the play-off final in 2024.

Perhaps Summerville would still be playing at Elland Road. Instead, his career has taken him in a very different direction.

A £70m transfer is now being discussed, and Al Hilal appear ready to make him one of their latest major signings.

Leeds still need to make their own big sales

While Summerville’s transfer will not directly put money into Leeds’ bank account, his huge move should remind the club of the importance of player trading.

Leeds have already spent heavily this summer.

The arrivals of Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic have strengthened the squad, but Daniel Farke’s team still needs more additions if they want to improve on last season’s 14th-place finish.

To do that, the club may need to sell some players.

Pascal Struijk has already left for Brighton, while Isaac Schmidt has also departed. Those moves helped Leeds manage their finances, but more sales could now be needed.

There are players at Elland Road who may no longer have a long-term future under Farke.

The club must find the right deals for them.

Leeds cannot afford to allow unwanted players to leave for small fees simply. The financial rules in the Premier League mean every transfer decision matters.

The Summerville story is a good example of how much value can be created when a young player is developed correctly.

Leeds must learn from the past

Summerville’s rise is both a success story and a reminder for Leeds.

The club helped develop a talented young winger who went on to become a Premier League star and an international player.

But Leeds were unable to keep him because of the situation they found themselves in after missing promotion.

Now, the Whites are back where they want to be.

The next challenge is making sure they do not repeat the same mistakes.

Leeds need to build a strong squad, improve their league position and continue bringing in talented players who can develop and increase in value.

For Summerville, the next chapter could be very different.

A move to Al Hilal for around £70m would be another huge moment in his career.

For Leeds fans, it will be another reminder of a player who once thrilled Elland Road and who could now be heading towards the biggest transfer of his career.
