Leeds United fans are feeling upset after seeing how good Leif Davis has become. Many believe selling him was a huge mistake, even bigger than losing Archie Gray this summer.
Leeds lose Archie Gray to Spurs
Leeds United got promoted back to the Premier League after smashing Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road.It was a brilliant day for the Whites, with Joel Piroe scoring four goals in the first half. That win, and Sheffield United losing later, sent Leeds back to the top league. On that happy day, young Harry Gray, just 16 years old, made his debut for Leeds. His brother, Archie Gray, had played a big part in the season, making 52 appearances before being sold to Tottenham Hotspur for around £30m.Image Credit: goalArchie has played a lot of games for Spurs, but he has struggled a bit in the Premier League. He has made mistakes, not scored or assisted any goals, and sometimes found it hard to keep up with the fast pace and strength of the league.Even though Archie Gray still has time to improve, right now, the £30m Leeds got looks like good business. But when we look at Leif Davis, the story feels very different.
Leif Davis shines at Ipswich
Leif Davis was sold to Ipswich Town in 2022 for just £1m, after a few games at Leeds and a loan spell at Bournemouth. Many didn’t think much about it at the time. But now, it looks like Leeds let a real talent slip away for almost nothing. At Ipswich, Davis has been fantastic. He helped them win promotion to the Premier League and showed he can create a lot of chances. In the Championship, he got 21 assists in 43 games! This season in the Premier League, even though Ipswich struggled and went back down, Davis still played really well.He made 12 big chances, 2 assists, and had 1.7 key passes every game. His stats show he has the quality to play at the top level, even if his defending needs a bit of work.Image Credit: throughitalltogetherHis teammates at Ipswich missed a lot of chances he created, or else he could have had even more assists.Unlike Archie Gray, Davis has proven he can create real danger going forward.Leeds badly missed a player like him, especially now they are back in the Premier League.
Big regrets for Leeds
Selling Davis for just £1m looks like a big mistake now. He could have been a big help for Leeds, giving them real quality on the left side.Fans and even the club must be wondering what could have been if they had kept him and given him a proper chance. In the end, Davis has shown he is good enough for the Premier League.Leeds United will surely feel regret for letting him go so cheap. For more Leeds United news, gear and match updates, follow us on Facebook or join our brand new WhatsApp Channel for instant updates directly to your phone.
