Leeds Eye England Under-20 Star as Wilfried Gnonto Exit Looks Increasingly Inevitable

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United are getting ready for another busy summer in the transfer market. The Whites have already made progress on bringing new players to Elland Road, but the club are not stopping there.

Reports suggest Leeds have an agreement in place to sign Harry Wilson on a free transfer once his Fulham contract comes to an end. However, Daniel Farke and the recruitment team are still looking to improve the squad before the new Premier League season begins.

One area Leeds wants to strengthen is the wide positions. That has become even more important because Wilfried Gnonto now looks likely to leave the club before the transfer window shuts.

Leeds identify Amario Cozier-Duberry as Gnonto replacement

Leeds are believed to be showing strong interest in Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry. The young England Under-20 international has caught the eye after an impressive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season.

The winger scored eight goals and played a big part in Bolton’s successful promotion campaign. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and Leeds now see him as a player who could fit well into Daniel Farke’s plans.

Cozier-Duberry is still only 20 years old, but many believe he has the talent to develop into a top Premier League player. His pace, direct running and confidence in one-on-one situations make him an exciting option for the future.

Leeds is not the only club interested in signing him. Hull City are also keeping a close watch on the youngster, meaning the Whites could face competition if they decide to make a move.

Why Gnonto now looks set to leave Elland Road

Wilfried Gnonto’s future has been the subject of rumours for several months, and a summer exit now appears more likely than ever.

The Italian winger found life much harder after Daniel Farke changed Leeds’ system during the second half of last season. The new formation helped the team produce better results, but it also reduced Gnonto’s role in the starting line-up.

Instead of being one of the first names on the team sheet, the 21-year-old often had to settle for appearances from the bench. While he still featured in cup matches, regular league starts became difficult to find.

Farke usually sticks with a winning team once he finds the right balance, and that left Gnonto with very few chances to force his way back into the side.

Interest in the winger was already building during the January transfer window, but no club completed a deal. This summer could be very different, with several teams expected to monitor his situation closely.

Leeds planning ahead for the Premier League

Leeds know they need better squad depth if they want to compete in the Premier League next season. Bringing in younger players with high potential is becoming an important part of the club’s transfer strategy.

Harry Wilson would add experience and quality, while Cozier-Duberry would offer energy, pace and long-term potential. The two players would also give Daniel Farke more options in attack throughout a long campaign.

Leeds are also expected to receive a healthy transfer fee if Gnonto completes a move away from Elland Road. That money could then be used to strengthen several areas of the squad before the transfer window closes.

The club are expected to remain active over the coming weeks as they continue building a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.

Supporters will now wait to see whether Leeds can win the race for Cozier-Duberry and whether Gnonto’s expected departure finally becomes official. One thing is clear, Leeds are planning for the future, and more transfer business could be on the way before the new season begins.
