Wrexham AFC, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford in January.
The League One club is searching for a proven goal scorer to boost their promotion hopes, and Bamford’s experience could be the answer.
However, his injury history and lack of goals this season raise concerns. Bamford has featured in only eight league games for Leeds this season, with no goals or assists to his name.
Wages a Major Obstacle for Wrexham
Bamford’s high wages at Leeds United could pose a significant challenge for Wrexham. According to journalist Olly Dawes, Bamford’s salary is far above what most Wrexham players earn.
This means the club’s celebrity owners may need to step in with additional financial support. A loan move might be more feasible, with Leeds potentially covering part of his wages.
Such an arrangement would make it easier for Wrexham to bring in Bamford while helping Leeds reduce their financial burden.
Leeds United’s Plans for Bamford
For Leeds United, moving Bamford off their wage bill is a priority. His limited contributions this season make him a costly asset for the club.
A potential loan deal to Wrexham could allow Bamford to regain his form while easing Leeds’ financial strain.
Whether Wrexham can finalize this ambitious move will depend on their willingness to take on a portion of Bamford’s hefty salary and their owners’ commitment to backing the deal.
Fans on both sides will be watching closely as the January window approaches.
