Leeds United international break: Ampadu stands out for Wales, Bahoya ankle concern

by Alex Matthews

The Leeds United international break is almost over, and the picture is mostly good news for Daniel Farke, with one ankle concern. Wales lost 1-0 to Denmark on Sunday, but captain Ethan Ampadu was again among the best players on the pitch.

Ampadu stands out in Wales’ defeat

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that a 75th-minute Rasmus Hojlund penalty was the only goal of the game. It says Wales Online gave Ampadu 8/10 as the standout player, writing: “So composed on the ball, and mopped up superbly on the edge of his own area. No player made more tackles on the night.” Read the full YEP round-up.

Dan James, the other Leeds player with Wales in the Leeds United international break, started the two earlier Nations League games, including the 2-1 win over Norway, but was an unused substitute on Sunday. The YEP says Wales boss Craig Bellamy had said before the game that James was not quite ready to start a second match in three days. Youngster Jayden Lienou was on the bench.

The one Leeds United international break worry

The one concern is Jean-Matteo Bahoya. Leeds United News (leedsunited.news) reports that he came off early in France Under-21s’ 3-2 win over Luxembourg. It quotes France U21 manager Gerald Baticle, speaking to L’Equipe: “I can’t tell you exactly what the injury is; there will be further tests, but it’s his ankle.”

Leeds have not published an update, and we have not seen one. The same report says other Leeds internationals have come through unscathed, naming Nico Elvedi, Tarik Muharemovic, Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, James Trafford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Next up: Arsenal

The Premier League says that after the Leeds United international break, Leeds play away at Arsenal, the opening fixture of Matchweek 6 on 10 October, per its international round-up.
