Leeds United U21s visit Oldham Athletic in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, with Scott Gardner’s side looking to build on their remarkable opening win at Barnsley.

The Leeds Oldham meeting kicks off at 7pm BST at Boundary Park. It is another chance for the academy players to test themselves against senior opposition after a busy run across several competitions.

Leeds Oldham test follows seven-goal opener

Before the Leeds Oldham game, Leeds began their Group G campaign with a 4-3 victory at Oakwell. Callum Mills scored a hat-trick, while Josh McDonald was also on target as the visitors established a four-goal lead.

Barnsley threatened a late comeback, but Gardner’s players held on. Leeds’ official preview says Mills became the youngest player in the competition’s history to score a hat-trick.

That result leaves Leeds second in the group, level on points with Fleetwood Town. The club says a positive result at Oldham could take the Whites back to the top of the standings.

Oldham bring another senior challenge

Oldham also won their opening group match, beating Fleetwood through a second-half Noah Chilvers goal. Both teams therefore arrive with a win already recorded in the competition.

The Latics’ league form ahead of Leeds Oldham has been less convincing. Leeds’ preview places them 21st in League Two and without a league victory since August. That does not remove the challenge of facing an experienced senior side on its own ground.

Since the Barnsley win, Leeds have gained more senior experience against Tamworth in the National League Cup. Scott Gardner spoke about that Tamworth game earlier this month. They also beat Stockport County U21s in the Premier League Cup last weekend.

How to follow Leeds Oldham

The club says the Leeds Oldham match will be shown on Sky Sports in the UK. LUTV subscribers outside the UK and Ireland can watch live, while Leeds will provide live blog updates and a match report through their official website.

Away supporters are allocated Blocks A and B of the Joe Royle Stand. The club lists adult tickets at £12, with £6 concessions and young-adult tickets and £2 junior tickets. Tickets are on sale until kick-off, but payments are not taken at the turnstiles.

Full viewing and supporter details are in Leeds United’s official Oldham preview. Age-band information is in the club’s ticket notice.
