Elland Road Transformation Begins as Dramatic Stadium Redevelopment Photos Emerge

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United have now started major work at Elland Road after the end of the Premier League season. The club and the 49ers are pushing ahead with huge plans to improve the famous stadium over the next few years.

Many Leeds fans have already noticed big changes outside the ground. Demolition work has started, old buildings are being removed, and construction teams are now working around the stadium every day.

The project is expected to finish in 2030 and will increase the capacity of Elland Road from 37,645 to around 53,000.

Ticket Office Demolished At Elland Road

One of the biggest talking points for supporters is the demolition of the old West Stand ticket office.

Photos from the site show the building being pulled down as Leeds begins the next stage of redevelopment work. Some LUTV operation areas have also been removed as construction continues around the West Stand area.

For many football fans, it is another sign that a new era is starting at Elland Road, Leeds.

West Stand And North Stand Set For Huge Upgrade

The West Stand is expected to get the biggest transformation during the project.

Its capacity is planned to increase from around 8,000 seats to 17,750 by 2028. The North Stand will also become much bigger, rising from just over 10,000 seats to around 15,300.

This is massive news for Leeds fans because tickets have been difficult to get for years due to the huge demand around the football club.

The redevelopment should help more supporters watch games live at Elland Road in future seasons.

Famous Floodlights Removed

Another emotional moment for many supporters came after the huge floodlights beside the West Stand were removed.

Those floodlights had become part of the stadium’s identity over many years. Seeing them disappear shows just how serious the redevelopment work now is.

A lot of football fans will feel sad seeing old parts of the ground vanish, but many also understand the club must modernise to compete in the Premier League long-term.

Temporary Structures Already Going Up

Gerard Binks

Before the season even ended, Leeds had already started building temporary corporate facilities behind the North Stand.

These structures are expected to help the club continue operating while the main redevelopment takes place over the next few years.

Construction teams have also removed the old Portakabin dressing rooms that were first brought in during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club during the Covid period.

Those cabins stayed at the stadium long after restrictions ended, but they are now gone as work speeds up.

49ers Showing Big Ambition

The 49ers Leeds ownership group is clearly showing huge ambition with this project.

After Leeds stayed in the Premier League this season, the club now wants to grow both on and off the pitch. Improving the stadium is seen as a major step towards building a stronger future.

There are also plans for more development around the stadium area, including homes, cafes, hotels, shops, and community spaces.

That could completely change the area around Elland Road over the next few years.

Exciting Future For Leeds United

Gerard Binks

Despite the changes, some supporters feel emotional, and there is also huge excitement around the football club.

Elland Road has always been one of English football’s most famous grounds. Now Leeds United is trying to make sure it is also ready for the future.

The Whites are expected to return to Elland Road for a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig in August, while work on the stadium continues in the background.

For Leeds fans, this is the beginning of a huge new chapter for both the club and its famous home.
