Simon Wood Fylde message: Leeds must show their quality

The Simon Wood Fylde message is that Leeds United Women welcome the chance to show what they can do against AFC Fylde after extending their winning run to ten matches.

It followed Sunday’s 2-0 win over Norton & Stockton Ancients. Leeds now look ahead to an away test against the side sitting second in the FA WNL Division One North.

Simon Wood Fylde message: a chance to show Leeds’ quality

Wood said the forthcoming match gives his squad an opportunity to demonstrate what they have built over recent seasons. Leeds arrive in good form, but the head coach pointed out that Fylde are also unbeaten in the league.

“We’ve got to go and show what we’re about.”

That is a challenge to maintain their standards against another strong side, rather than treating the ten-match run as a guarantee of the next result.

Purpose in Leeds’ attacking play

Ahead of the Simon Wood Fylde test, Wood reflected on the Norton victory and praised the first-half combinations around the edge of the penalty area. He felt Leeds found pockets of space and attacked with a clear purpose.

Amy Woodruff and Drew Greene scored before the break. Wood also welcomed another league clean sheet, while making clear that securing the three points was the most important outcome.

The result kept Leeds at the top of the division. More Leeds United coverage is available through the site’s latest news page.

Woodruff’s determination earns praise

In the Simon Wood Fylde preview, Wood singled out Woodruff’s persistence in scoring her goal. He said it came from determination and a willingness to keep trying to find the finish.

“Having a fit Amy Woodruff on the pitch is always going to cause problems for the opposition.”

The coach was pleased to have the league’s leading scorer back on the pitch. Her contribution helped Leeds turn a strong opening half into another win.

Simon Wood Fylde focus follows another win

The next match brings a different question from the Norton result: whether Leeds can keep their level against a direct challenger away from home.

Wood’s comments acknowledge both teams’ form. Leeds have earned confidence from their run, but his message is to prove it again rather than rely on it.

Leeds Women have now won ten in a row.
