Leeds United Set Sights on £12.8M Star as No.1 Target to Replace Meslier: Deal Could Be Close

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United look set to make a big change between the sticks this summer.

Illan Meslier, who’s been the main man in goal for the last few years, is expected to leave after a shaky spell last season.

Now, Daniel Farke and the club are working hard to bring in a new No.1 and it seems they’ve found their top choice.

Meslier Out, New Keeper Needed

Meslier’s time at Leeds has been full of ups and downs. Last season, the young Frenchman made too many mistakes, and manager Daniel Farke eventually dropped him for Karl Darlow.

The switch helped calm things down at the back, but it was clear Darlow was only a short-term fix.

With Meslier likely to be sold this summer, Farke wants a new number one, someone solid and ready to take charge in the Premier League.

Perri Leads the Race for No.1 Spot

While Leeds have been linked with a few keepers, the latest reports say that Lucas Perri from Lyon is now the top choice.

Perri, a 27-year-old Brazilian, had a good season in Ligue 1 last year, keeping 10 clean sheets in 33 games.

He helped Lyon finish sixth in the table, and now Leeds are ready to make their move.

It’s believed Lyon are asking for around £12.8 million for Perri.

That’s a big fee, but Leeds could get a deal done, especially with Lyon’s current situation.

Lyon’s Money Troubles Could Help Leeds

Lyon are going through a rough time. The club has built up huge debts over £150 million and they were even told they might be sent down to Ligue 2.

That’s not happening now, but it’s clear they’ll need to sell players this summer.

For Leeds, that could be great news. Lyon might be more willing to let Perri go for a fair price, and that makes the move even more likely to happen.

Other Keepers Linked, But Perri Is the Favourite

Leeds had a shortlist of three goalkeepers: Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Robin Zentner, and Lucas Perri.

Milinkovic-Savic looks unlikely now, with clubs like Napoli also interested. Zentner has been mentioned too, but with Perri available and Lyon needing cash, he’s become the clear favourite.

Fans can expect Leeds to push hard in the coming weeks to sign a new No.1.

With Meslier on his way out, and Premier League football back at Elland Road, this signing could be key to the club’s success next season.
