Leeds United Set for Major £3.8M Decision as Paraag Marathe Stance Points to Elland Road Exit

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United are heading into another big summer of decisions after exceeding expectations in their return to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s side managed to stay up comfortably and finish 14th, proving many early predictions wrong after promotion.

But even with progress on the pitch, big changes are now expected off it.

Leeds face reality check after strong Premier League return

Leeds impressed in their first season back, but club officials have already warned that the next step is not simple.

Paraag Marathe has made it clear that Leeds are still building towards becoming a fully established Premier League side.

He also highlighted the importance of following the Premier League’s new Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) rules, which will control how much clubs can spend compared to their income.

That message has changed the mood around Elland Road. While last summer was about stability, this summer looks more about balance, sales, and rebuilding.

Leeds managed to keep hold of their key players last year, but that approach is expected to shift now as the club tries to stay compliant with financial rules while still improving the squad.

Wilfried Gnonto is set to be a key exit this summer

One name now strongly linked with an exit is Wilfried Gnonto.

The Italian winger arrived at Leeds for around £3.8m, but his time at Elland Road has become uncertain after a mixed season.

At points, he struggled for consistent starts, especially after tactical changes from Farke that reshaped the team’s attacking setup.

Gnonto still featured in cup matches and from the bench in the Premier League, but he was no longer a guaranteed starter. That lack of regular football has raised questions about his long-term future at the club.

There were already signs earlier in the year that a move could happen, and now that feeling has grown stronger heading into the summer window.

Leeds ready to cash in as transfer interest grows

Leeds is not being forced into a sale lightly, but the financial situation means tough decisions must be made.

Reports suggest Freiburg have already shown interest in a potential deal, with talks taking place over a possible move. Leeds, however, are believed to prefer either a permanent sale or a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

The club is said to be asking for more than £12m, which would represent a strong profit on their original investment.

With Gnonto’s current value rising on the market, Leeds sees this as an opportunity to boost their financial position while staying within SCR limits.

That extra flexibility could then be used to bring in new players who better fit Farke’s tactical system.

Farke’s system leaves questions over the winger role

From a football point of view, Gnonto’s situation also fits the bigger picture at Leeds.

After Farke changed systems during the season, the Italian struggled to find a clear role in the starting XI. Leeds became more structured and less reliant on traditional wide forwards, which limited his impact.

Farke is also known for sticking with settled line-ups when results improve, and once Gnonto lost his place, it became difficult for him to win it back.

Even though he stayed at Elland Road in January despite interest, a summer exit now looks far more realistic.

A summer of change at Elland Road

Leeds United are now preparing for a window that could define their second season back in the Premier League.

Selling players like Gnonto may not be popular with fans, but it could be necessary for long-term stability and squad improvement.

The club hopes that any money raised is reinvested wisely as they look to move from survival mode into becoming a more established top-flight side.

One thing is clear: change is coming at Elland Road, and Gnonto could be one of the first major names involved.
