Leeds United’s American owners, the 49ers, have shown they mean business. They want to turn the club into a £1 billion powerhouse in the next five years, and they have now made a huge appointment to kickstart the journey.
With new rich investors already on board, the 49ers are moving fast to grow the Whites both on and off the pitch.
Strong Start Gives Owners Confidence
Leeds are back in the Premier League and have made a steady start with eight points from their first six matches. That early form has given the owners belief that now is the right time to push forward with their big project.
The goal is not just survival, but to make Leeds a strong Premier League side again.
To do that, the 49ers want to boost money coming into the club, bring in better players, and most importantly, expand Elland Road into a modern, world-class stadium.
New Architects Appointed For Elland Road
The biggest part of the £1bn plan is to redevelop Elland Road. At the moment the stadium holds around 37,000 fans, but the plan is to lift that number to 53,000 seats.
This would make Elland Road one of the biggest grounds in the Premier League and bring in huge new matchday income.
At first, the 49ers gave the job to KSS Design Group, who had worked on Liverpool’s Anfield upgrade. But after some changes, the contract has now gone to BDP Group, a global architecture firm with a studio right in Leeds.

BDP recently built Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, which has almost 53,000 seats. Now they will bring their experience to Leeds.
Architect director Luke Harrison said the aim is to design a ground that respects the history of Leeds United while giving fans a stadium that matches the big future the club wants.
Why This Matters For The Club
For years, Leeds have been called a sleeping giant. The 49ers now want to wake that giant and make sure the club is competing at the very top.
A bigger stadium means more ticket sales, more sponsorship, and more money to spend on players.
If Leeds stay in the Premier League, the extra income could push their revenue towards £300 million, moving them closer to the £1bn valuation.
The fans may still be wary of the American owners, especially after a tough transfer window, but this new step shows they are serious.
The appointment of BDP proves that plans are no longer just talk, work is about to begin.
A Big Future For Leeds United
Leeds supporters have always dreamed of seeing the club back among the elite.
The 49ers’ vision could make that dream real. A rebuilt Elland Road with 53,000 fans roaring inside would not only change matchdays, it could also give Leeds the power to attract better players and sponsors.
The journey will not be easy, and results on the pitch will still be the biggest test.
But the 49ers have put their cards on the table, they want Leeds to rise again, and they are ready to spend big to make it happen.
