How the new owner took over

49ers Enterprises first invested in Leeds in 2018 as a minority shareholder. In June 2023 owner Andrea Radrizzani agreed to sell the rest of his stake, in a deal that valued the club at around £170 million. The English Football League approved the sale on 17 July 2023 and control passed to 49ers Enterprises straight away. Marathe, who had been vice-chairman, became chairman.

Who is Paraag Marathe, the owner’s chairman?

Marathe is president of 49ers Enterprises and joined the Leeds board in the years before the takeover. As chairman he oversees the club’s leadership team and its sporting and commercial operations, according to the club’s own profile.

Owner structure

The club says Leeds United Football Club Limited is 100% owned by 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, a company registered in Delaware. Paraag Marathe and Jed York each hold a stake in the entity that holds the voting rights. Red Bull took a minority stake in Leeds in 2024, according to reports at the time.

Previous owner of the club

  • Andrea Radrizzani took full ownership in 2017 after buying out Massimo Cellino.
  • Massimo Cellino’s family consortium bought a 75% stake in 2014, completed in April of that year.
  • Ken Bates bought the club in January 2005 and was chairman for much of the following decade.
