Leeds United Step Up £17M South American Swoop as Liverpool and Everton Circle

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United are still working on their transfer plans despite Daniel Farke preparing his squad for the start of the new Premier League season.

The Whites have already made several important additions this summer, but the club’s work is not finished. Farke wants more strength in key positions, and another attacking player could also arrive before the transfer window closes.

One name now attracting attention is FC Midtjylland winger Dario Osorio.

The 22-year-old Chile international has built a strong reputation in Denmark and is now attracting interest from several clubs around Europe. Leeds are among the sides monitoring his situation, but they could face serious competition from Liverpool and Everton.

Midtjylland are understood to want around £17m before they consider selling their winger.

For Leeds, this could be an interesting opportunity, but the club must first solve some more urgent problems in the squad.

Osorio is an exciting attacking player who mainly operates from the right side despite being left-footed.

That profile could be attractive to Farke because Leeds do not simply need another player for one position. They want more versatility and creativity across the attacking areas.

The Chilean has already produced strong numbers during his time with Midtjylland.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 18 assists for the Danish club, showing that he can contribute in front of goal as well as create opportunities for his teammates.

Those numbers explain why several clubs have started watching him closely. Liverpool are reportedly interested, while Everton have also been monitoring his development. Leeds therefore cannot assume that they will have an easy route to a deal.

Midtjylland have already rejected offers for Osorio and are holding out for around £17m.

That is not an enormous figure in the modern Premier League market, but Leeds have to decide whether spending that money on another attacker is the right move at this stage.

The club have already spent heavily this summer, although their transfer strategy has allowed them to retain room for further additions.

Osorio would also represent a different type of signing from some of the players already brought to Elland Road. Nico Elvedi has now joined from Borussia Monchengladbach, while Leeds have also strengthened other areas of the squad.

The Chilean could provide the unpredictable attacking quality that Farke has been looking for.

Leeds have more urgent transfer problems

The main issue for Leeds is that Osorio may not currently be the most important position to strengthen. The departure of Joel Piroe has left the squad needing another striker.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains an important option, but Farke needs another number nine who can either compete with him or step into the starting XI when required.

That should arguably be the priority. The goalkeeper position is another concern.

Alex Cairns has not convinced as the ideal No.2 behind James Trafford, and Leeds need a more reliable back-up option if they want to have proper competition for the position. There is also a problem at left-back.

Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury has exposed a lack of natural cover in that position. James Justin can help when required, but asking him to constantly cover different defensive positions is not an ideal long-term solution.

Farke needs specialist depth. That does not mean Leeds will ignore Osorio.

A player with his record and versatility could still be worth pursuing if the club believes he can make a real difference.

Leeds must decide before the transfer deadline

The timing of this interest is important. Leeds are preparing for their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, so Farke’s attention is naturally focused on getting his current squad ready.

However, the club still have time to make more moves before the window closes. The decision over Osorio will probably depend on what happens with the more urgent positions.

If Leeds manage to find their striker, goalkeeper and left-back targets, the club could then turn their attention towards adding another attacking player.

Osorio could become that player. There is also the question of competition.

Liverpool and Everton are both Premier League clubs with the financial power to compete for his signature, meaning Leeds would need to move decisively if they decide the Chilean is the right target.

The £17m asking price is not impossible for Leeds, especially considering the club’s improved transfer position and the money generated through player sales.

But there is no point signing an exciting winger simply because he is available if the squad still has major holes elsewhere.

That is the difficult balance Farke and the Leeds recruitment team now face.

Osorio could give Leeds something different

There is a clear argument for making the move. Leeds have physicality and experience in the squad, but another player capable of creating something from nothing would be useful.

Osorio’s left foot, right-sided role and ability to score and create could give Farke another option when games become difficult. The Chilean also has plenty of room to develop at 22.

That could fit the club’s longer-term transfer strategy, especially if Leeds want to build a squad capable of competing higher up the Premier League table in future seasons.

For now, though, Osorio remains a player Leeds are monitoring rather than a confirmed transfer target with a concrete offer on the table.

The next step will be whether the Whites decide to turn that interest into action.

With Liverpool and Everton also watching, Leeds may eventually have to choose between waiting for their priority deals or making an early move for one of South America’s more exciting young attackers.

Either way, Dario Osorio is now a name Leeds fans should keep an eye on before the transfer window closes.
