Leeds United Eye Shock Move for Premier League ‘Goal Machine’ after Midfield Target

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United are now eyeing Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff this summer. The 26-year-old midfielder has been with Newcastle his whole life but could be ready for a fresh start.

Longstaff has had loan spells with Blackpool and Kilmarnock, but if he joins Leeds, it would be his first permanent move away from his boyhood club.

Leeds were first linked to Longstaff back in March 2024, and the talk hasn’t stopped since. Now, reports say Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is ready to let him go.

Longstaff is known for working hard in midfield. Even Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali once said Longstaff is “underrated.” That shows he could be a smart signing for Leeds as they return to the Premier League.

Callum Wilson Also Linked with Leeds

It’s not just Longstaff Leeds are looking at. Reports now say Newcastle striker Callum Wilson is also on the list.

Wilson has struggled with injuries lately and has not played much this season. But he has lots of experience in the Premier League, and that could help Leeds a lot.

Wilson, who once played for Bournemouth and scored many goals, is now 33. His contract with Newcastle runs out this summer, and he could leave on a free transfer. That’s why Leeds are keeping a close eye on him.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke wants more attacking players, and Wilson could be a good fit. But signing him won’t be easy. He earns £110,000 a week, and that’s a big number for Leeds.

Still, Wilson’s record is strong. He scored 49 goals in 128 games for Newcastle and has 2 goals in 9 appearances for England.

Back in November, Eddie Howe said Wilson is a “top player” and praised the way he played in the Champions League alongside Alexander Isak.

Leeds Need Experience for the Premier League

Leeds United are back in the Premier League next season, and they need players who have played at that level. That’s why both Longstaff and Wilson are being looked at. They have played in big games, and they know what it takes.

Longstaff might stay at Newcastle to help meet their European squad rules, but if he leaves, Leeds are one of the top clubs interested. Wilson is more likely to move, and a free transfer could work for both sides.

For now, fans will have to wait and see, but Leeds are clearly planning big things this summer.
