Leeds United Close In on New No.10: Two Top Targets Locked, One Set to Sign Soon

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United are now focused on signing a new playmaker this summer, with two names at the top of their list, Emiliano Buendía and Gustavo Hamer.

Manager Daniel Farke is keen to bring in a proper No.10 before the new Premier League season kicks off.

Leeds Want Creativity in Midfield

While most talk has been about strikers and defenders, the need for a creative attacking midfielder can’t be ignored. Leeds have already signed striker Lucas Nmecha, and defender Jaka Bijol is expected to join soon.

Now it’s time to add a spark in midfield, someone who can control the game and make chances.

Leeds fans have grown frustrated with Brenden Aaronson, who, despite working hard, hasn’t provided enough goals or assists.

Last season, he only managed two assists in 46 Championship games. That kind of output won’t be enough in the Premier League.

Buendía and Hamer Are the Main Targets

According to reports, Emi Buendía could be available from Aston Villa. Leeds tried to sign him in January, but he didn’t want to drop down to the Championship.

Now that Leeds are back in the Premier League, the move looks more likely. His price is said to be between £16.8m and £20m. A loan deal might also be possible.

On the other hand, Gustavo Hamer is also being watched. He plays for Sheffield United, but with Chris Wilder leaving the club, his future is now uncertain. That could open the door for Leeds to make a move.

Both players have been on Leeds’ radar for years. And now, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has said that Leeds are being smart and taking their time.

He believes one of the two, Buendía or Hamer, will join this summer. Farke likes both, and it’s just a matter of who becomes available at the right price.

Aaronson Likely to Be Dropped

Although Aaronson is fit and works hard, most fans agree he should not start next season. He can play in different positions, but Leeds now need someone with a better end product.

The club is looking for a more deadly No.10 who can score and assist regularly.

Leeds United are moving closer to signing a top attacking midfielder. Buendía and Hamer are both strong options.

Whoever arrives could become the key to unlocking defences next season, something Leeds badly need to survive and thrive in the Premier League.
