Paraag Marathe Confirms Massive Elland Road Upgrade: 53,000-Seat Expansion Set for May 2026 Kick-Off

Big things are happening at Leeds United, and it’s not just on the pitch.

As the club gears up for their return to the Premier League, exciting plans are moving forward to make Elland Road even bigger and better.

The stadium, known for its electric atmosphere and loyal fans, is set for a major upgrade.

If all goes to plan, Elland Road will grow from 37,645 seats to a huge 53,000 giving more fans the chance to cheer on the Whites every week.

West Stand Gets the First Touch-Up

The West Stand will be the first part to change. It’ll be partly knocked down and rebuilt, with a new look to match the big East Stand.

When done, it’ll hold around 17,750 fans on its own.

The North Stand will also be made bigger later on, jumping from 10,414 to 15,300 seats.

Even better, Leeds say they’ll make sure there’s no loss of seating during building work, so fans can still come and enjoy games as usual.

A brand-new fan zone is also in the plans, along with more room for wheelchair users and better access all around the stadium.

Fans and Locals Are All In

Leeds United didn’t rush these plans. They spent months talking to fans and the local community.

The results? A massive 98% of people gave the thumbs-up to the changes.

Everyone wants to see the stadium grow, not just for football, but also for the city of Leeds.

Up to eight big events like concerts or international matches could take place at the new-look Elland Road every year, bringing even more life to the area.

Club Bosses Excited About the Future

Chairman Paraag Marathe called it a “once-in-a-generation” chance.

He said the makeover will keep Elland Road’s special feel, while making it ready for the future.

More fans, more noise, and more memories to be made.

Chief Business Officer Morrie Eisenberg added that the team worked hard for 18 months to design a stadium that stays true to Leeds’ proud history.

Over 1,800 people showed up at the public exhibition to give feedback and their ideas helped shape the final plan.

When Will It All Happen?

The club has already sent the official application to Leeds City Council. A decision is expected around October 2025.

If the green light is given, work on the West Stand could begin by May 2026 and finish by the end of 2028. After that, the North Stand will follow, set to be done by 2030.
