The summer transfer window is closed and Leeds United fans are left feeling frustrated.
Manager Daniel Farke wanted fresh faces on deadline day, but nothing came.
The big problem is clear, Leeds are not scoring enough goals.
Now, with the window shut, the Whites could move into the free agent market, and one name stands out Josh Brownhill.
Goals Still Missing at Leeds
Leeds have made a steady start at home this season, but scoring goals has been the real issue.
The club has managed only two goals in four games, with one of those coming from the penalty spot.
The defence has been solid apart from the heavy defeat at Arsenal, but the attack still looks toothless.
Pundit Jeff Stelling summed up the problem.
He said he “can’t get excited” about Leeds’ attacking signings like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Justin and Noah Okafor.
For him, the club needed reliable strikers, and Calvert-Lewin is not someone you can depend on for goals across a long season.
Leeds Eye Move for Josh Brownhill
With the window shut, Leeds can still bring in free agents. According to reports, Josh Brownhill, the former Burnley midfielder, is being looked at seriously.
He is without a club after leaving Burnley and has already rejected offers from Wolves and Leicester City.
Brownhill is known for his energy and work rate in midfield.
While he is not a striker, he could add some balance, strength and experience to the squad.
Leeds fans know the team needs more bite in midfield, and Brownhill might be the answer.
Wages a Big Question
The sticking point is wages.
Reports suggest Al Shabab offered Brownhill a huge contract worth £100,000 per week, which he turned down.
Leeds are very unlikely to match that.
The club just freed up space by moving on Patrick Bamford’s big contract, so it would make no sense to hand another player that kind of money.
For Leeds, this deal only makes sense if Brownhill lowers his demands.
While he is experienced and proven in the Premier League, he is not a guaranteed goalscorer.
Spending that much money on him could be risky for the 49ers ownership.
What Next for Farke and Leeds?
Daniel Farke knows his team need more quality.
The defence looks fine, but goals are hard to find, and pressure is already building.
Signing Josh Brownhill on the right deal could be smart business, but fans will still want to see a proper striker come in when the January window opens.
For now, Leeds may have to fight hard with what they’ve got and hope Brownhill can add a little bit more power in midfield if he arrives.
