Leeds United is already getting busy behind the scenes as it plans for a massive January transfer window.
After a poor run of form in the Premier League, the club’s owners, the 49ers, are ready to fix one big mistake from the summer, failing to sign a proper striker.
Leeds regret missing the top striker in the summer
Leeds returned to the Premier League full of hope after promotion, and the board brought in ten new players to help Daniel Farke’s side survive.
But after four defeats in their last five games, the Whites are now in serious trouble near the bottom of the table.
The biggest regret? Not signing a proven goalscorer.
In the summer, Leeds spent around £18 million on Swiss winger Noah Okafor from AC Milan, and brought in Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha on free deals. But so far, that trio has only scored three goals combined.
Calvert-Lewin, once a strong striker for Everton, has looked off form, missing big chances that could have changed games.
His numbers show he’s missed four of five clear chances this season, and that has left Leeds struggling for goals when it matters most.
Now, club sources say there’s a real sense of regret inside Elland Road.
They believe not signing another top-quality forward in the summer was a big mistake, one they’re desperate to fix when the January window opens.
Leeds to go big in January
Transfer insider Dean Jones told TEAMtalk that Leeds will “try hard” to sign a striker this winter. But he also warned that it won’t be easy, saying:
“Leeds need a striker, and they’re going to push to make it happen in January. They should have signed one before the season began, and there’s regret over that. They’re now working to make funds available, but must find the right balance of value and experience.”
The January market is always tricky. Clubs don’t like selling their best players mid-season, and prices usually go up.
Plus, players are often hesitant to join a team fighting near the bottom of the Premier League table.
Even so, Leeds are ready to move early. They want to line up deals before the window officially opens so they can beat other clubs to their targets.
Competition heating up
Leeds won’t be alone in looking for a new striker. According to reports, Everton and West Ham are also hunting for attacking options.
That means the Whites will face strong competition for any player they go after.
Finding a striker with quality and Premier League experience won’t come cheap, especially with Financial Fair Play (PSR) limits still in play.
Leeds managing director Robbie Evans already said the club pushed their financial limits in the summer without breaking the rules, so they’ll need to be smart with spending.
Celtic star Daizen Maeda is linked

One of the names linked with Leeds is Daizen Maeda, the 28-year-old forward from Celtic.
Maeda has an impressive record in Scotland with 119 career goals, and he’s said to be open to leaving Celtic in January.
Leeds are interested, but they face competition from Everton and Brentford, who have both made early contact.
Maeda’s price tag won’t be cheap, but Leeds believe he could be the perfect fit to boost their attack.
Pressure is growing on Daniel Farke
Behind the scenes, there’s also pressure on Daniel Farke to turn results around.
Reports claim he’s been given a points target to keep his job, and some pundits think a sacking could be “inevitable” if results don’t improve.
After the 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest, Jamie Carragher criticised Leeds’ defending, especially pointing out how Jaka Bijol’s mistake cost them a key goal.
Leeds United are now in a fight to save their season.
The 49ers are determined to bring in a striker in January to give Farke the tools he needs, but time is running out.
If they fail again in the winter window, this could be another long, painful season at Elland Road.
