Leeds United have been given a major chance to sign a world-class striker this summer.
Reports say that Aleksandar Mitrovic could be on the move, and Leeds are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on the situation.
Mitrovic Might Be Up for Sale
Mitrovic currently plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He joined them in 2023 for a record fee and has been brilliant, scoring 68 goals and giving 15 assists in just 78 matches.
But now, after Al-Hilal signed Darwin Nunez from Liverpool for around £46 million, they are thinking about selling Mitrovic.
That’s where Leeds United come in. The Whites are still hunting for a top striker.
Manager Daniel Farke has pushed Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt out of his plans.
Also, young Mateo Joseph wants to leave, which leaves Leeds with only Joel Piroe and young Harry Gray in attack.
Getting a top forward before the Premier League season starts is now a top priority.
The new season kicks off in just 12 days with a tough match against Everton.
Big Salary Could Stop Deal
Even though Mitrovic is a perfect fit for Leeds, the deal won’t be easy.
The Serbian striker earns a massive £400,000 per week in Saudi Arabia.
That’s almost six times more than Leeds’ top earner, Patrick Bamford, who is on £70,000 a week after the club’s return to the Premier League.
For Mitrovic to join Leeds, he would have to take a huge pay cut.
That could make the deal very hard, unless the striker is really keen to return to English football.
Oxlade-Chamberlain Back on the Radar
While chasing Mitrovic, Leeds are also being linked again with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The ex-Liverpool star has struggled in Turkey with Besiktas and is close to cancelling his contract.
If he becomes a free agent, Leeds could look to bring him in.
At 31, Oxlade-Chamberlain has lots of experience and could still offer something in the Premier League.
Leeds are one of several clubs said to be interested.
More Signings Still to Come
Leeds have already signed seven players this summer, spending around £65 million. But they’re not done yet.
Reports also say the club is trying to bring in a full-back and a winger before the window closes.
One name being mentioned is Bilal El Khannous from Leicester City.
The club also missed out on Igor Paixao, who chose Marseille instead. But there’s no slowing down from the Elland Road side.
Leeds United are making big moves this summer. Getting Mitrovic would be massive, but the money involved makes it very tricky.
Still, fans can be excited, as the club clearly wants to strengthen before the Premier League kicks off.
