Leeds United have just received some big transfer news that could help them land a top striker before the new season starts.
With only two weeks to go until the first game at Elland Road against Everton, Leeds are still searching for the right forward but things might be looking up.
Striker Problems At Leeds
Right now, Leeds don’t have many options up front.
Mateo Joseph doesn’t want to stay and Patrick Bamford has been told he isn’t part of Daniel Farke’s plans anymore.
That leaves just Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha as the only senior strikers in the squad.
Luckily, Piroe has been in brilliant form during pre-season.
He’s scored four goals in four games and even won the bleep test in training, staying strong beside experienced full-back Sam Byram.
Dovbyk Now Cheaper Than Before
Leeds have been linked to several strikers, including Rodrigo Muniz.
But Newcastle are also chasing Muniz now, so the Whites could lose out there.
A better option might be Artem Dovbyk and there’s great news on his price.
Last week, it was said that Roma wanted around £35 million for the Ukrainian striker.
But reports from Italy now claim Roma are ready to sell Dovbyk for just £22 million, a drop of £13 million.
Roma’s sporting director, Frederic Massara, knows it might be tough to get the full fee, so he’s open to lower offers.
Dovbyk scored 17 goals last season in Italy, and the year before he was La Liga’s top scorer with 24 goals while playing for Girona.
He’s proven that he can settle quickly in new leagues and hit the ground running, something Leeds badly need right now.
Why Dovbyk Might Be The Better Pick
Rodrigo Muniz has Premier League experience and has done well at Fulham, but he’s valued at £40 million.
On the other hand, Dovbyk has scored more goals in fewer minutes and would be over £10 million cheaper.
Here’s a quick comparison:
- Dovbyk: 252 games, 118 goals, 29 assists
- Muniz: 152 games, 39 goals, 4 assists
Dovbyk also scores or assists every 105 minutes on average much better than Muniz’s 152 minutes.
If Leeds can get a proven goalscorer like Dovbyk for just £22 million, it might be the smart move instead of going into a bidding war for Muniz.
With time running out before the season begins, this deal could be the key to boosting Leeds’ chances of promotion.
