Leeds Player Ratings vs Arsenal: Two Struggles but Grit Shown by Several as Whites Fight On

by Alex Matthews

Leeds United endured a very difficult afternoon at Elland Road as Premier League title contenders Arsenal ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Despite a bright start and strong backing from the home crowd, the Whites could not cope with Arsenal’s quality, especially from set-pieces and wide areas.

Daniel Farke’s side showed fight in spells, particularly early in the game and just after half-time, but mistakes and lack of control proved costly.

Below is a full breakdown of how every Leeds United player performed, with ratings reflecting a tough day against elite opposition.

Karl Darlow: 4/10

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Leeds goalkeeper. Darlow struggled to command his box, especially from corners. His biggest error came when he punched the ball into his own net under pressure, which effectively killed Leeds’ momentum before the break. His kicking also lacked accuracy, putting extra pressure on the defence.

Jayden Bogle: 5/10

Bogle spent most of the match defending rather than attacking. Arsenal pinned him back, limiting his influence going forward. He was caught out for Arsenal’s third goal and found it hard to deal with the pace and movement of his side.

James Justin: 6/10

Justin defended fairly well in the first half and tried to keep things simple. He wasn’t directly at fault for the goals and showed discipline. However, he was sacrificed at half-time as Leeds looked for a tactical change.

Joe Rodon: 5/10

Rodon worked hard and stayed organised, but Arsenal’s attackers eventually found ways through. He wasn’t guilty of major mistakes but couldn’t do enough to stop the pressure building.

Pascal Struijk: 5/10

Struijk started strongly, winning plenty of aerial duels and defending well early on. However, he was drawn out of position for Arsenal’s third goal and was outmuscled by Gabriel Jesus for the fourth. A mixed display overall.

Gabi Gudmundsson: 6/10

Gudmundsson tried to push forward when Leeds had their best spell in the second half. Defensively, he struggled against Arsenal’s wide players and was beaten for the cross that led to the opening goal.

Ethan Ampadu: 5/10

Ampadu couldn’t control the midfield as he usually does. Arsenal’s high-tempo passing limited his influence. He had one early shot that went close, but overall he struggled to impose himself.

Anton Stach: 5/10

There were a few neat touches and moments of promise, but they were too rare. His set-piece delivery could have been better, especially in a game where Leeds needed something from dead-ball situations.

Ilia Gruev: 5/10

Gruev showed some calm passing early on, but faded as the match went on. Arsenal’s midfield dominance meant he couldn’t get into the game consistently.

Brenden Aaronson: 5/10

Aaronson worked hard and pressed well, but his final ball and decision-making let him down. He couldn’t create enough danger in the final third.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 6/10

Calvert-Lewin battled well against a strong Arsenal defence. He was often isolated and dropped deep to help link play. The service wasn’t there, but his effort couldn’t be questioned.

Noah Okafor (Sub) 6/10

Okafor added energy when he came on. He looked sharp in flashes and at least asked questions of the Arsenal defence, even if he couldn’t change the result.

Sean Longstaff (Sub) 6/10

Longstaff helped Leeds move the ball quicker during their short spell of pressure. However, once Arsenal regained control, he struggled to keep things tight.

Facundo Buonanotte (Sub) 5/10

Buonanotte had one good run but never fully clicked with his team-mates. His touches were a bit loose, and he couldn’t make a big impact.

Willy Gnonto (Sub) N/A

Gnonto didn’t have enough time or touches to influence the match.

Joel Piroe (Sub) N/A

Piroe barely saw the ball during his brief appearance and couldn’t get involved.

Referee: Stuart Attwell 5/10

The referee was inconsistent at times and missed a clear booking. His handling of time-wasting and fouls frustrated both sets of players.

Final Thoughts for Leeds United

This was a harsh lesson for Leeds United against one of the best sides in the league.

While the scoreline was heavy, there were moments of effort and organisation.

Daniel Farke will now look for a strong response in the next Leeds United games as the fight for Premier League survival continues.
