Leeds United fans are still talking about what happened with Mateo Joseph this summer, and now the young forward has finally spoken again about his future.
The Leeds football club made big changes to the Leeds United squad for the 25/26 season, but the situation around Joseph has become one of the biggest stories at Leeds United this year.
With new faces arriving and the Leeds squad changing fast, many supporters feel like Joseph is one of the biggest talents to slip through the hands of the United squad.
But the forward’s own actions have also made things difficult, and now it looks like his time at Elland Road could be coming to an end.
Leeds United Squad Changed Big This Summer
This summer was huge for the Leeds United squad numbers 25/26. The club spent more than £100 million bringing in strong players to make sure they can survive in the Premier League.
Players like Lucas Perri, Jaka Bijol, and Anton Stach came in to give the Leeds United club some real height and physical strength.
The team wanted to stop being bullied and wanted to look like a proper football league club again.
But while new players came, some also left. And among the biggest exits was Mateo Joseph Leeds.
The young forward once had big hopes at Elland Road. Fans liked him, and early last season, it even looked like he was finally going to break into the first team after a great pre-season. But his form dropped, and Joel Piroe took his place.
By the end of the season, Joseph was struggling for minutes, and then everything changed again in the summer.
Mateo Joseph Refused Training and Forced a Move Away
After playing well for Spain at the U21 Euros, Joseph went on holiday. But when he returned, he refused to report for pre-season at Leeds. This shocked many fans and upset the coaches.
Daniel Farke then decided he could not trust him anymore. So the Leeds United star moved to Mallorca on loan. The Leeds club hoped he could rebuild his form there.

Since then, Joseph has been playing regularly in La Liga. He even scored twice against Sevilla, which helped him regain confidence.
And now, the young forward has made comments that show he may not want to come back to Leeds next season.
Joseph Opens Up About His Future: Big Hint About Exit
Joseph spoke with Spanish outlet Marca this week. He praised Mallorca and said they showed him trust and belief he never felt at Leeds. He said he is “very happy” there and wants to repay their confidence.
When asked if he wants to stay in Spain beyond his loan spell, Joseph said:
“Yes, I’m very happy here, but you never know.”
He also said his future “does not depend on him”, which clearly means the United Football Club and Mallorca will decide.
But his words make one thing clear: he is not thinking about returning to the Leeds United squad.
There Is No Future for Joseph at Leeds United
Right now, it looks almost impossible for Joseph to play for the Leeds football club again. The club was unhappy with his refusal to train and forced a move. Fans also feel he let the team down.
Even Wilfried Gnonto misbehaved last summer, but he apologised and earned his way back into the team. Joseph never did that.
The Leeds United club knows he is still a valuable asset they can sell. Big clubs like Strasbourg, owned by Chelsea’s owners, already wanted him.
Unless something dramatic changes, Joseph will not be part of the Leeds United squad numbers next season. His future will almost definitely be away from Elland Road, and by his own actions, he made it happen.
