Leeds United U21s finished their National League Cup campaign with a strong and confident 3-0 win away from home against Gateshead FC.

It was one of the brightest Leeds United U21 fixtures of the season, as the young Whites showed energy, passion, and real fight from the first minute to the last.

The match gave fans a lot to cheer about, especially with two excellent goals from Ollie Pickles and one smart finish from Jacob Render.

For people following National League Cup results or looking for the latest Gateshead FC news, this game was full of drama, chances, and top young talent.

Fast Start and Big Saves in First Half

The game kicked off on a cold night in Tyne and Wear, and it didn’t take long for the action to heat up.

Gateshead tried to start strong, sending early shots towards the Leeds goal, but young keeper Darryl Ombang, who is currently on loan in the National League, stood firm and made a big early save.

Leeds United U21s quickly grew into the game. Sam Chambers charged up the pitch and won an early corner before new starter Marley Wilson showed good strength up front.

Leeds began pressing higher, and soon shots from Render and Brockie forced the Gateshead goalkeeper into strong stops.

As the half went on, both teams had moments, but Leeds looked the more dangerous side. The breakthrough finally came in the 26th minute.

Pickles picked up the ball near the edge of the box, drifted inside past defenders, and smashed a brilliant low shot into the far corner.

It was a top-class finish and gave Leeds United U21 a deserved 1-0 lead.

Even after scoring, Pickles didn’t slow down. He worked hard defensively too, blocking a Gateshead chance inside the box to protect the lead.

Gateshead pushed with a few corners before half-time, but Leeds defended with real heart to go into the break ahead.

Leeds Take Control in Second Half

The second half started just as fast. Leeds United U21s almost made it 2-0 straight away when Pickles fired a thunderous shot off the crossbar.

Only minutes later, the Whites got their second goal. Chambers made a sharp run down the wing and sent in a perfect low cross for Render, who calmly guided the ball into the net.

At 2-0, Leeds were full of confidence. Chambers, Render, Cresswell, and Brockie kept pushing forward, while the defence stayed strong under pressure.

Gateshead did try to get back into the game, with a few dangerous chances, but Ombang made two big flying saves to keep the clean sheet safe.

As the match entered the final ten minutes, Leeds showed again why they are one of the most exciting young sides to watch in the National League Cup.

After good build-up play, the ball fell to Pickles on the edge of the area. He took one touch and powered a rocket into the top corner, a stunning goal that sealed the game at 3-0.

Strong Ending to the Cup Campaign

The closing minutes saw Leeds United U21s pushing for a fourth goal, with subs Logan White and Callum Mills both going close.

Defender Lienou also made a late attacking run, demonstrating the team’s overall confidence.

When the final whistle blew, the scoreline read Gateshead FC 0-3 Leeds United U21s, giving the young Whites one of their best Gateshead FC results of the season and finishing their National League Cup journey on a real high.

This victory will give Scott Gardner’s boys a strong lift as they move ahead to other Leeds United U21 fixtures.
