Leeds United could soon be breathing a big sigh of relief after reports claim the club are owed a massive £37 million from Barcelona for the sale of former fan favourite Raphinha.
The payment, which is expected to arrive before the end of the 2025/26 season, could help the Whites fix their PSR rules Premier League worries and give them more space to spend in the next transfer window.
Leeds United Still Feeling the Pressure of PSR
After last season, Leeds United had to be extra careful with their money. The Premier League PSR rules make sure clubs don’t spend more than they can afford and breaking them could lead to point deductions.
The club spent over £100 million on new Leeds United players last summer, bringing in 10 fresh faces to help their Premier League push.
Fans weren’t fully happy with all the signings, but the club made it clear they had to play safe and avoid another PSR problem like other teams have faced recently.
Even now, the board wants to bring in a few more faces in January, but they are sticking to low-cost options until they know their financial situation is secure.
Raphinha’s Barcelona Deal Could Save the Day
Leeds sold Raphinha to Barcelona in 2022 in a deal worth up to £58 million. The Spanish giants agreed to pay £50m upfront and another £8m in add-ons, but reports say they’ve only paid around £21m so far, leaving a huge £37m still to come.

Barcelona, who are also facing money troubles, must pay the remaining fee by the end of the season or face fines. That means Leeds are likely to get their full payment soon and that could be a game changer for the club.
The money will not only help cover Premier League last season spending but also give Daniel Farke some room to move in the Premier League transfer news market this winter.
Big Boost for January Transfer Window
If the £37m lands before the end of the season, Leeds United could finally relax about PSR and go after new signings in the Premier League transfers window.
Reports say the Whites want a new winger and attacking midfielder and they are also eyeing a possible move for Chris Wood, who could make a surprise return to Elland Road from Nottingham Forest.
Funny enough, it might be Raphinha, the man who left for Barcelona years ago, who ends up saving Leeds this season.
His old transfer could fund the new players Leeds need to stay strong in the Leeds United Premier League campaign and push higher up the table.
