Leeds United are still working hard to bring in a new striker, with just a few weeks left before the transfer window shuts.
Boss Daniel Farke has made it clear, without a proper number 9, the Whites could struggle in the Premier League this season.
So far, Leeds have brought in some players, like Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer.
But many fans and experts think he’s not ready to lead the line in the top flight.
Joel Piroe is another option, but he hasn’t played in the Premier League yet either.
And with the season about to kick off, Farke wants better up front.
“We need more firepower,” Farke said earlier. “Right now, we are weaker in attack than last season in the Championship.”
Rodrigo Muniz Still the Top Target
The one name that keeps coming up is Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham.
He’s been Leeds’ number one target all summer. And even though Fulham are saying he’s not for sale, Leeds haven’t given up hope.
Other clubs want Muniz too. Atalanta from Italy even sent their CEO to London to try and get a deal done, but Fulham turned them down.
Still, Leeds believe they can make something happen before the window closes on September 1st.
Leeds insider Graham Smyth gave an update on the Inside Elland Road podcast.
“It’s all gone very quietly,” he said. “But I think that’s because Leeds are being patient. They still think they can do a deal for Muniz.”
Fans Getting Nervous
With the first game of the Premier League season just days away, fans are getting nervous.
Right now, the only striker options are Nmecha and Piroe and neither have shown they can bang in the goals needed to stay up.
There’s been some good signs from Muniz’s side. He’s said to be open to the move, and Leeds are still confident.
But until something gets done, fans will keep worrying.
Leeds still have time. But if they don’t bring in a striker soon, a bad start could knock everyone’s confidence, players, fans, and even Farke himself.
