Leeds United are on the move again in the summer transfer window as they prepare for life back in the Premier League and this time it’s a big name on their radar.
Calvert-Lewin a Big Target for Leeds
Leeds have made contact with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the 28-year-old striker who recently left Everton. With 85 career goals and 11 England caps, he’s got the experience Leeds need as they aim to stay up next season.
Reports say the club have spoken to his representatives to check if he’s open to a switch to Elland Road. But they’ll face a fight, as West Ham and another unnamed side are also interested.
Everton haven’t given up hope of keeping him either, even though his contract has ended.
Calvert-Lewin would be a free signing, but his wage demands could be high. Leeds are said to be looking for proven Premier League players, and Calvert-Lewin fits the bill, if he can stay fit.
Struijk Could Be Sold to Raise Funds
To make room for more deals, Leeds might let long-serving defender Pascal Struijk go. He’s had injury problems and with Jaka Bijol arriving from Udinese this week, competition at the back is heating up.
Struijk’s exit could help with financial flexibility. BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope says that although Struijk is experienced, his injuries mean Leeds could be tempted to cash in this summer.
Farke’s Transfer Plans Still Active
Manager Daniel Farke and football director Adam Underwood have a clear plan. Their main targets this summer are a goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back, attacking midfielder, and striker.
Bijol ticks the box for defence, but more signings are expected soon.
There’s also talk of Leeds battling Everton again, this time for left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille. Newcastle’s move for James Trafford could also see Leeds go in for goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Meanwhile, Dan James is close to signing a new contract to stay at the club after talks went well with his agent.
Final Thoughts
Landing Calvert-Lewin would be a real statement from Leeds. He’s got the Premier League know-how and the finishing touch needed at the top level. But with strong interest from other clubs, Leeds will need to act fast and put forward a solid offer.
If the move happens, fans will be hoping Calvert-Lewin can fire them to safety and help avoid the drop that has hit so many promoted teams.
