Leeds United could be close to a big summer signing, as reports say they are leading the race to get Christantus Uche from La Liga club Getafe. The 22-year-old midfielder had a great season in Spain and is now wanted by many teams in Europe.
Leeds Show Strong Interest in Midfield Talent
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke wants new players to help his team in the Premier League. And Uche looks like a player who can make a difference. Leeds are said to be showing “strong” interest in the Nigerian midfielder.
Uche joined Getafe just last summer but had a big impact in his first La Liga season. He played 33 games, scored 4 goals, and gave 6 assists. He was also called up to the Nigeria national team for the first time last month and made his debut against Jamaica.
Leeds are not the only club looking at Uche. Teams from France and Italy are also interested, and Premier League side Brentford are said to be watching him too. But right now, Leeds are believed to be in pole position to sign him.
Getafe Ready to Sell for Less Than €25m
Uche has a release clause of €25 million (around £21 million), but reports say Getafe might accept a lower price to make a deal happen. His contract runs until 2028, but the player is believed to be open to a new challenge this summer.
Leeds want to strengthen their midfield, and Uche could be a perfect fit. Other targets for the Whites include Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United and Emiliano Buendía, who may leave Aston Villa after his loan at Bayer Leverkusen.
Stats Show Uche’s Big Potential
Here are Uche’s key stats from the 2024/25 La Liga season:
- Games Played: 33
- Goals: 4
- Assists: 6
- Goal-Creating Actions: 10
- Minutes Played: 2,486
At just 22, Uche is already showing he can play at a high level. His pace, skill, and eye for goal could bring something fresh to Leeds’ midfield next season.
Fans will be hoping the club can wrap up the deal soon and bring the “fabulous” midfielder to Elland Road before other clubs jump in.
