Leeds United are busy building a strong squad under Daniel Farke, but the next step is finding someone who can score plenty of goals.
The opening pre-season friendly against Manchester United ended 0-0, showing good organisation but also highlighting that Leeds still need a proven finisher.
So far, Sean Longstaff and Jaka Bijol have looked like smart signings, and the 49ers have spent over £60 million of their transfer budget.
However, with Patrick Bamford likely to leave for the MLS and Joel Piroe not enough to lead the attack alone, Leeds are now searching for a new striker.
Chelsea’s Marc Guiu on the Radar
A name now on Leeds’ list is Marc Guiu, the 19-year-old Spanish striker who recently joined Chelsea from Barcelona.
Reports say Chelsea’s transfer plans have opened the door for Leeds to make a move for the talented youngster.
Guiu is a natural goalscorer. He made headlines when he scored on his La Liga debut for Barcelona at just 17, showing his sharp movement and clinical finishing.
His style of play would fit perfectly into Farke’s 4-3-3 system, where a striker needs to be brave, fast, and lethal in front of goal.
Joe Cole Compares Guiu to Luis Suarez
Former Chelsea and England star Joe Cole has already spoken highly of Guiu.
Speaking to TNT Sports last year, Cole said: “This kid can score goals. I liken Marc Guiu to Luis Suarez. I’m not saying he is Suarez now, but he has that instinct and bravery to be a top striker. I think Barcelona made a mistake letting him go.”
For Leeds, a player with that kind of instinct could be the answer.
While they could still go for a more experienced striker, Guiu’s energy and natural goal-scoring ability make him a very exciting option.
Leeds’ Transfer Focus
Leeds have around £90 million left in their budget after strengthening defence and midfield.
The plan now is to bring in at least one top forward and possibly another winger.
Signing a player like Guiu would not only add depth but also give Leeds a long-term star to build around.
Daniel Farke is building something special, but to survive and compete in the Premier League, Leeds need a striker who can deliver week in, week out.
Marc Guiu could be that player if Leeds can convince Chelsea to let him leave on loan or even on a permanent deal.
