Leeds Ace Hailed ‘Standout’ Despite England Defeat

by Abdullah Mamaniyat

On Tuesday night, Wales fell to a 3-0 defeat against England in a friendly. The game was virtually over for Craig Bellamy’s side within 20 minutes, as England struck through Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka.

It was a hugely disappointing night for Wales as they continue preparations for their crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Belgium on Monday. However, they can take some solace from the performance of one Leeds United player in particular.

Welsh outlet Y Clwb Pel-Droed rated the Welsh stars who took on Thomas Tuchel’s side on Tuesday, and most of the ratings did not look pretty for The Dragons.

‘Standout’ Rodon Features At Wembley

United defender Joe Rodon started for Wales and earned a 6/10 rating – the highest of any Welsh player on the night. Without the centre-back’s efforts, Wales could have suffered an even heavier defeat.

Rodon has been a stalwart for Leeds this season alongside Pascal Struijk. The defender has made more appearances than any other United player under Daniel Farke, featuring 103 times and starting 90 consecutive league matches across the Championship and Premier League.

With Leeds having strengthened in the position over the summer, Jaka Bijol recently expressed his desire to break into the team. With the Welshman being one of the most consistent players on the team sheet, it is likely that a Rodon-Bijol partnership is the endgame for Farke at the back.

Several other Leeds players also featured for Wales, including Karl Darlow and Ethan Ampadu, though both received underwhelming 4/10 ratings for failing to control key moments in their respective positions.

Leeds return to Premier League action against Burnley on October 18, once the international break concludes.
