Leeds United will look very different next season in the Premier League. Many old faces like Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, and Adam Forshaw have now moved on or retired.
A new group of leaders is being built as Leeds focus on staying in the Premier League in the 2025/26 season.
Adam Forshaw Leaves Blackburn Rovers
One of the biggest updates is that Adam Forshaw has been released by Blackburn Rovers. The 33-year-old midfielder was once seen as a key player during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at Leeds.
Bielsa had high praise for Forshaw, calling him one of the hardest-working players and someone who could both defend and attack well. He played a big part in Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
But injuries stopped him from staying a regular part of the team. Since leaving Leeds, Forshaw has played for Norwich City, Plymouth Argyle, and most recently Blackburn Rovers.
Sadly, none of these clubs gave him the same success or regular playtime he once had.
At Blackburn, Forshaw only started five games. He did score a rare goal, his first in nine years in a 2-0 win against Plymouth. Even though former teammate Kalvin Phillips congratulated him, it wasn’t enough to earn him a longer stay.
Blackburn let him go along with players like Dilan Markanday and Jack Vale.

A New Look Leeds Squad for 2025/26
Leeds are building a new-look squad for the Premier League. The focus is now on survival in the top flight. But there’s more work to do, some players are out of contract, and others like Dan James and Ethan Ampadu need longer deals to stay.
The squad is younger now, and not all players are at the level needed for Premier League football. Leeds will have to decide who is strong enough physically and technically for this next challenge.
Is There Still Hope for Forshaw?
Forshaw is now without a club again. But despite his age and injury past, he still looks fit and could offer something to another team. He might not be the same player Bielsa once praised, but his experience and leadership could still help, maybe even in a coaching or mentoring role.
Leeds fans will remember him for his effort and loyalty. Whether Forshaw finds another club or retires soon, he remains a big part of Leeds United’s journey back to the top.
