Agent Confirms Leeds United Interest In Bundesliga Defender

by Abdullah Mamaniyat

The agent of VfL Wolfsburg player Denis Vavro has confirmed that there is Premier League interest in the defender, namedropping Leeds United as a possible suitor.

Martin Petras, who is the agent of the centre-back, recently spoke to Slovakian media outlet TVNOVINY.sk. Reports have circulated in Germany about Vavro’s availability given his limited playing time in 2025/26 due to an adductor injury suffered in November. It has restricted the Slovakian to just one start for Wolfsburg this season, despite featuring heavily for the Bundesliga side last season.

He said: “I have heard reports that AS Roma or Fiorentina are interested in him, I have also read about the interest of Leeds [United] and Wolverhampton. I can confirm that clubs are asking about him – both from Italy and Spain, from the English Premier League, but also other teams from the German Bundesliga.”

Is A Move for Vavro Likely?

As things stand, there are no clubs who have proposed any offers to take Vavro away from Germany. Amongst some of the clubs interested are AS Roma, Fiorentina and Wolverhampton Wanderers. If a departure was to happen, the preference seems to be for the defender to leave on loan to regain match fitness after a couple of months away from the pitch. However, a fight for his place at Wolfsburg seems the most viable option – at least for the time-being.

However the situation can change drastically, so Leeds United fans can expect to keep an eye on this transfer saga for the remainder of January. Petras added: “In a few days, the situation may turn around if Denis does not play more matches. No one knows what will happen in a week or 10 days.

“They [Wolfsburg] certainly didn’t tell us or suggest anything about him leaving. Last year, he showed great quality and performed excellently, so I believe that everything will return to the old tracks.

“Everyone wants to be loaned as a priority, they catch on to the fact that he hasn’t played recently. However, when we insist on a transfer, they don’t want it to be uninteresting for them. In the winter transfer period, many clubs do not have the funds for transfers.”

The agent also believes that Wolfsburg currently value the player at “five to seven million euros”, which makes him an affordable player to many club’s who hope to bolster their defence during this winter period.

Leeds Are Firing Despite Newcastle Setback

The introduction of Jaka Bijol to the starting line-up in recent weeks has helped stabilise the team at the back during a difficult run of fixtures, as well as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hot streak of goalscoring.

The disappointingly narrow 3-2 loss to Newcastle United on Wednesday night has not taken away from the side’s run of impressive victories or performances against the top Premier League sides.

United currently sit in 16th place, 8 points away from 18th placed West Ham United. The impressive December run must be capitalised on as Daniel Farke’s side attempt to alienate themselves away from the relegation zone. Their next game is against Derby County on Sunday 11 January, before facing in-form Fulham the following weekend.
