Will Daniel Farke Last Until Christmas?

by Abdullah Mamaniyat

Every point counts in the Premier League and Leeds United fans know that too well. Sunday’s loss against Nottingham Forest was bleak in performance, and an international break means that United fans have to stare at a league table that sits the club so dangerously close to the relegation places.

United sit in 16th place, with 11 points from just as many games played. 4 losses in their last 5 game has mounted pressure on manager Daniel Farke who has notoriously struggled in the top flight and has continued that trend at Leeds despite their strong showings last season in the Championship.

There is also no League Cup fixtures for the Leeds manager to draw silver linings from. The early round loss to local rivals Sheffield Wednesday meant that Farke would solely be measured on his team’s performances until January at least, when the FA Cup comes around.

But will Farke last until Christmas and beyond the New Year? Only the 49ers consortium that owns United can truly answer that question, but it is very possible to forecast this based on the fixtures ahead.

Brutal Fixture Run For Farke Ahead

When the squad comes together again after the latest international break in two weeks time, they face a daunting number of teams that have found their feet over the last few weeks.

Aston Villa are next up, who will be coming off an impressive 4-0 win against Bournemouth. Since 28 September, they have lost just two games – 2-1 vs Go Ahead Eagles and 2-0 vs Liverpool – but have secured impressive victories against Spurs and Manchester City along the way.

November is rounded up by welcoming Pep Guardiola’s side to Elland Road, who are on a terrific run of form and will be motivated to catch leader Arsenal by any means possible.

The busiest calendar of the month is December, which will see Leeds face Chelsea, Liverpool, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland. The New Year begins with a reverse fixture against Liverpool again, followed by Manchester United.

It is incredibly difficult to find a team that United can get 3 points from until January, which made the loss against Forest sting further. It was their last bottom 10 opponent for a while, made equally worse by the teams around them starting to pick up form. West Ham United and Forest are rejuvenated from their new manager bounce, whilst Burnley – who sit 1 point behind Leeds – are looking resilient and capable of picking up valuable points from nowhere.

Who Could Replace Farke? The Options Are Plenty

There is no shortage of managers out of work lately, and they will be looking to secure work in time for 2026.

Brendan Rodgers, Michael Carrick and Gary O’Neil are of the English managers looking to make their bounce-back to the top flight. Former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag and former Spurs and Forest manager Ange Postecoglou will looking to make a point after their very brief tenures in their roles this season.

Should the 49ers consortium decide that enough is enough – either before, during or after this fixture run – there is a wealth of Premier League experience out there to bring in place of Farke who has struggled despite getting a host of new faces in at Elland Road over the summer.
