Leeds United earned a hard-fought point away from home after a tense afternoon against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The match ended in a goalless draw, but the game was full of drama after a missed penalty and a red card that left Leeds playing with ten men.
One of the biggest talking points from the match was the sending-off of defender Gabriel Gudmundsson.
The Swedish defender received a second yellow card during the first half, and referee Thomas Bramall had no choice but to send him off.
After the match, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg gave his verdict on the incident and explained why he believes the decision from the referee was correct.
A big chance missed by Calvert-Lewin
Before the red card incident, Leeds had the best chance of the entire game.
The visitors were awarded a penalty during the first half when Palace midfielder Will Hughes handled the ball inside the box. The ball had come from a dangerous corner delivered by Leeds midfielder Anton Stach.
Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped forward to take the spot kick. It was a big moment for Leeds, as scoring first could have changed the whole direction of the match.
However, the England forward failed to take advantage of the opportunity. His penalty shot went wide of the post, leaving Palace goalkeeper Walter Benítez relieved.
The miss was heavily criticised during the match broadcast, with pundit Chris Sutton describing the effort as a very poor penalty.
For Leeds, it was a frustrating moment as they had started the game well and looked capable of taking the lead.
Gudmundsson’s red card changes the game
The match turned dramatically later in the first half.
Leeds defender Gabriel Gudmundsson made a challenge on Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr during a Palace counterattack. Referee Thomas Bramall judged the challenge to be reckless and showed Gudmundsson a yellow card.

However, the defender had already been booked earlier in the match. Because of that, the second yellow automatically became a red card.
Leeds were suddenly reduced to ten men just before half-time, making the second half much more difficult for Daniel Farke’s side.
Despite the setback, Leeds continued to fight hard and defend strongly to protect the draw.
Clattenburg backs referee decision
After the match, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg explained why he believed the decision was correct.
According to Clattenburg, the challenge from Gudmundsson had enough speed and force to be considered reckless. In football rules, a reckless challenge normally results in a yellow card.
Because the Leeds defender had already been booked earlier in the match, the referee had no real choice but to issue a second yellow card and send him off.
Clattenburg stated that the decision followed the laws of the game and that the referee handled the situation correctly.
Although Leeds fans were frustrated by the red card, the expert referee believes the official made the right call based on the rules.
Leeds fight hard to secure a point
Playing with ten men for most of the second half is never easy, especially away from home in the Premier League.
However, Leeds showed strong determination and organisation under manager Daniel Farke.
The team defended well and limited Crystal Palace to only a few clear chances. The players worked hard together and showed great discipline to keep the score level.
The result leaves Leeds with 32 points in the league table, bringing them closer to the important 40-point mark that usually guarantees Premier League survival.
For a team battling to stay in the division, every point is extremely valuable.
Gudmundsson suspension creates selection problem
The red card means Gabriel Gudmundsson will now serve an automatic one-match suspension.
He will miss Leeds’ next Premier League match against Brentford next weekend.
Fortunately for Daniel Farke, he still has defensive options available. Players like Jayden Bogle and James Justin could step in to replace the suspended defender.
Justin is considered the most likely option to play on the left side of defence for the upcoming match.
Even so, many Leeds supporters believe Gudmundsson has been one of the best signings of the season and an important player in the team.
His absence will definitely be felt.
Important weeks ahead for Leeds
With only a few matches remaining in the season, Leeds United must continue collecting points to ensure they remain in the Premier League.
The draw against Crystal Palace showed that the team has strong character and the ability to fight in difficult situations.
If Leeds continue to show the same determination in the coming weeks, they will have a strong chance of securing their place in the top flight for another season.
For now, the focus will quickly shift to the next big challenge against Brentford.
