Noah Okafor Shunned As Manager Takes Swipe At Winger

by Abdullah Mamaniyat

Noah Okafor has been one of Leeds United’s biggest revelations in 2025/26, and is quickly on his way to becoming a fan favourite since his arrival from Italian giants AC Milan.

The winger has played in seven Premier League appearance for Leeds United in his debut season, starting in six and cementing himself as a regular starter for manager Daniel Farke.

Okafor’s return of two goals makes him the club’s joint top-scorer in 2025/26 alongside defender Joe Rodon. United’s struggle for goals has them sitting just above the relegation zone, but they would be in a much unhealthier position had it not been for some of Okafor’s performances.

Switzerland Manager Remains Unconvinced By Okafor

However, Okafor’s form for his new club has not swayed Switzerland manager Murat Yakin to call the Leeds player up for their upcoming World Cup Qualifier matches against Sweden and Kosovo.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Switzerland manager said: “Okafor remains on our radar. I’ve spoken to Okafor repeatedly, telling him what I expect from him on and off the pitch. I hope my words will eventually get through to him.”

“We’ll continue to monitor him. Attacking players are also measured by their scoring. Those who are currently playing have an advantage over Okafor in that regard.”

In the last two games for the Swiss, it has been Ruben Vargas of Sevilla that has played in Okafor’s preferred left wing position under Murat. The Sevilla winger has a slightly better return of two goals and four assists in ten games for Los Palanganas.

Getting Back In The Good Books

Okafor and Murat have had a public spat, which has contributed to the national team manager’s stubbornness to pick the winger.

He last played for Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League in November 2024, as the Swiss team lost 3-2 to Spain. The snub by Murat marks one year since Okafor got the national team call-up, which will be a cause for concern with the World Cup coming up next summer.

Okafor will need to let his feet do the talking between now and the end of the season. His teammates and manager can aid that goal, but first they must discover a way to score more goals collectively as a team.

United’s turgid away form has slipped them down the Premier League table in recent games. Another away fixture against Nottingham Forest proves a crucial game this Sunday, and Sean Dyche’s side could move within two points of Leeds if they can secure a win.
