Big news in the Leeds United transfer chase, it looks like one top target is slipping away.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Nottingham Forest are almost ready to sign James McAtee, the England Under-21 star who has been linked with Leeds, Forest, and Tottenham in recent weeks.
Leeds Want More Attacking Power
Leeds have been busy this summer after winning the Championship and getting back into the Premier League.
The club has already signed Sean Longstaff from Newcastle and Anton Stach from Hoffenheim.
Both players have looked strong in pre-season and could play in the first game against Everton on Monday night.
But manager Daniel Farke wants more. He says the team still needs another winger or attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
One player they have been watching is Bilal El Khannouss from Leicester City. Another is James McAtee, who came through Manchester City’s academy.
Forest Move Fast for McAtee
Now it looks like Leeds might miss out. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Forest are moving quickly to get McAtee.
The 21-year-old has already said “yes” to the move, and the deal could be done in the next day or two.
Forest believe they can seal the transfer soon, which would be a big blow to Leeds’ summer plans.

McAtee spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, where he impressed with his skill and attacking runs.
His style of play has been compared to Phil Foden, as he likes to get into the box and create chances.
Pep Guardiola’s Thoughts on McAtee
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken in the past about McAtee.
He said he would like the young player to stay at City because he knows the club’s style and works hard in training.
Pep also called him a “lovely guy” who can play in different positions.
But he admitted that young players often want more game time, and sometimes they need to move to get it.
Guardiola said McAtee has the ability to create and score goals, and that with more minutes he will get even better.
What It Means for Leeds
If McAtee does join Forest, Leeds will need to turn their attention to other targets.
El Khannouss could still be an option, but Farke will want new signings quickly.
With the Premier League season starting, the clock is ticking for Leeds to bring in more attacking quality.
