Leeds United enjoyed a comfortable afternoon at Elland Road after beating Norwich City 3-0 in the FA Cup, but one player who again failed to make an impact was Facundo Buonanotte.
The FA Cup clash gave several squad members the chance to prove themselves to head coach Daniel Farke. Many Leeds players were allowed to start the match and show they deserved more regular game time.
However, Buonanotte remained on the bench for the entire match and was not introduced even when the result looked completely safe late in the game.
For many supporters watching at Leeds United Elland Road, the decision raised further questions about the young winger’s role in the squad.
The Argentine arrived on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion during the winter transfer window and was expected to add creativity in attack.
But so far, things have not worked out as many fans hoped.
Former Leeds player questions the signing
The situation has also caught the attention of former Leeds defender Aidy White, who recently shared his thoughts about the player.
Speaking on a football podcast, White explained that he never fully understood the decision to sign Buonanotte during the January window.
According to him, the winger does not seem to fit the current tactical system used by Leeds United Daniel Farke.
Farke has often used a structured formation that requires players to work very hard without the ball. Every player in the system needs to press opponents, defend when needed, and follow strict tactical instructions.
White believes Buonanotte is more of an attacking talent who prefers freedom in the final third rather than playing in a rigid system.
Because of this, the former Leeds defender suggested that the Argentine may not be the type of player Farke wants in his team.
Some fans now feel the move could turn out to be one of the more disappointing pieces of Leeds transfer news this season.
Lack of game time raises doubts about Leeds future
Since arriving at the club, Buonanotte has struggled even to make regular matchday squads.
While several Leeds players have been given opportunities in recent matches, the Argentine winger has often been left watching from the sidelines.

The FA Cup victory against Norwich was seen as a perfect moment for an FA Cup player like Buonanotte to get some minutes on the pitch.
With Leeds comfortably leading the match, many expected Farke to bring him on for the final part of the game.
Instead, the manager kept him on the bench, which only fueled speculation about the player’s future at the club.
Even small moments during matches have shown signs of frustration as the winger waits for his chance.
Permanent transfer now looks unlikely
When Buonanotte first joined Leeds on loan, there was early discussion about a possible permanent transfer.
At that time, some reports suggested Leeds could consider signing him permanently in the summer if his performances impressed the coaching staff.
However, the situation now looks very different.
Brighton is believed to value the winger at around £20 million. That would be a significant investment for Leeds, especially if the player is not a regular in the team.
With the current situation, it appears very unlikely that the club will spend such a large amount on a player who has struggled to convince the manager.
Even if Leeds remain in the Premier League and have money to spend, the club will likely focus on players who better suit Farke’s tactical approach.
Focus remains on Premier League survival
For now, Leeds United are concentrating on finishing the season strongly.
The club’s main goal is to secure its place in the Premier League and avoid getting dragged into a relegation battle.
Because of that, Farke is expected to continue selecting players he fully trusts in his system.
That could make it even harder for Buonanotte to earn regular playing time before the end of the campaign.
Unless the Argentine can impress the manager in training and prove he fits the team’s style, his time at Elland Road could be short.
As things stand, the most likely outcome is that Buonanotte will return to Brighton once his loan spell finishes in the summer.
For Leeds supporters, attention will now turn to future Leeds United transfer plans as the club prepares for another important window ahead.
